Living Without Regrets

“We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.”
– Steve Maraboli

We never know how long we will live, so we must make conscious decisions every day to live life to its fullest and to make the most out of each experience. Here are ten ways to start living life with no regrets.

Live Your Dream

Many of us are so busy trying to live up to the expectations of others that we do not allow ourselves to follow our dream. When we ignore our dream, we miss the opportunity to reach our potential and experience that deep satisfaction that comes from following our dream.

Tell the Ones You Love That You Love Them

The experience of love is one of the best gifts in life. When you love someone, let both your words and deeds be loving, sincere and pure. No one is promised a tomorrow, so tell your loved ones every day how much they mean to you and that you love them. Your relationships will grow to heights beyond your imagination.

Forgive

All of us have been hurt at some point in our life. How we carry on with that hurt is up to us. It’s a choice. Some people stay unmovable in bitterness their entire lives and never move past the pain. By choosing to forgive, we set ourselves free from the chains of resentment.

Make Failures Stepping Stones

Don’t quit when you are experiencing failure. Rather, use the experience to learn and grow. A failure is just a stepping stone in disguise.

Leave Your Work at Work

Earning a living is important, but not to the exclusion of other important things. To fully take part in all facets of life, such as spending time with loved ones and enjoying meaningful activities, we need to leave work at work. Without a proper work/life balance, we miss out on the things that are the most important aspects of life.

When we reach the end of our lives, it is not our work that matters, but the people we loved and shared life and experiences with.

Take Some Chances

Staying within our comfort zone may be safe, but it is nearly impossible to achieve happiness and fulfillment. Identifying ways to move outside our comfort zone will help us take the risks needed to push us forward and achieve a fuller, more rewarding life.

Don’t Take Life So Seriously

Life is far too short to be stressing and worrying about things that are not within our control. Allow a little bit of silliness and fun to be part of your life every day. Being aware and open to the good that is present in all situations can help us not to take life so seriously and is a key component to living a more gratifying life.

Always Be yourself

We hear this said all the time, yet, it is the truth. We have our own values, beliefs, personality traits, and desires. When we deny any part of our true self, we die a little death inside. Our individuality makes us who we are. By being faithful to ourselves, we give everyone else permission to do the same.

Be Kind

Intentional kindness is life-giving to those we extend our kindness. It works marvels in putting people at ease and improving relationships. A sincere smile or kind gesture or comment can make someone’s day brighter. Being kind is an easy practice that enhances our own lives and the lives of others.

Our lives are meant to be lived without regret. We never know how long we have, so let’s start living a life with no regrets … every day.
